About BT Assessing

Insurance Assessing Specialists

BT Assessing was established in 2016 by Managing Director Brett Thornalley. Brett originates from Nelson where he lives with his wife Kathleen and their three children. In addition to work and family activities, Brett is heavily involved with rugby in the Tasman region, currently holding the position of Assistant Manager for the Tasman Makos.

Brett’s vision in establishing BT Assessing is to provide specialist heavy machinery insurance assessment services to clients locally, regionally and nationally, with a stated aim of “providing services in a fair and timely manner and to thereafter provide risk management and prevention support to help mitigate the same or similar accidents from happening again.”

Brett’s strong reputation for excellence has been achieved over an insurance assessment career that spans more than seventeen years. Prior to working in this specialist area of work, Brett trained to become a qualified panel beater and he says that it is this hands-on training that taught him the fundamentals of his role today.

Brett acknowledges that no two days are the same in his line of business, with clients ranging from the forestry industry, to heavy and light motor, to agriculture and mining – essentially he can be found in any industry where heavy machinery and both heavy and light motor vehicles are in use. At accident and claims time, he believes that it’s his calm and informative approach to his work that provides the assurance clients need.

“It is often a very difficult and challenging time for heavy machinery owners and the underwriters, so surety and robust processes are a necessity and that’s what we offer,” he says.
